State Of Michigan: Insurance Sliding Will Not Be Tolerated

Insurance glide is a deceitful and predatory strategy that is implemented by insurance agents to the disadvantage of their customers.

According tinsurance-sliding-michigano the State of Michigan’s Department of Insurance and Financial Services, sliding is:

“an agent’s failure to fully disclose all of the details of, and obtain informed consent to, the purchase of all products and services being included in an insurance transaction.”

When problems arise as a result of not alerting the consumer to all the charges associated with the insurance premium, the total cost turns out to be higher than expected.

Examples of insurance fraud include:

  • Falsely stating that roadside aid is included in a person’s insurance policy when it is not.
  • Asserting that roadside aid is essential when buying car insurance in Michigan when it is not.
  • Indicating that extra protections are necessary in conjunction with buying insurance when it is not.
  • Neglecting to reveal, clarify, or dissect all the protections linked with an insurance policy, and the expense of those protections.
  • Failing to precisely reveal the real expense of the insurance policy.
  • Charging a person who is applying for insurance for extra products beyond the insurance policy being bought without that person’s approval.
  • These are not the only instances of insurance sliding. Instead, they are simply examples of the phenomenon.

The director of the Department of Financial and Insurance Services has the authority to take action against individuals who engage in fraudulent, coercive, or dishonest practices, demonstrating financial irresponsibility or untrustworthiness, incompetence, or engage in fraudulent practices in the business of insurance. The punishment for such individuals may include the imposition of a fine, revocation or suspension of the applicable license, or placing them on probation.

In recent years, there have been many cases of fraud in the no-fault insurance system in Michigan. The insurance industry has attempted to dupe the system, using negative actions as a justification to dismantle the no-fault law that has helped thousands of people injured in car accidents. Medical providers and lawyers have exploited the system, quickly pointing out the negative aspects in an attempt to dismantle the law.

Michigan consumers are victims of fraud committed by insurance companies and their agents. The Department of Insurance and Financial Services has provided evidence of this through bulletins issued on the other side of the argument.

This article, titled “Abuse of the No-Fault Law Happens on Both Sides, Hurts Victims,” was written by attorney Tom Sinas, who works in Grand Rapids as an auto accident attorney, and lawyer Steve Sinas, who specializes in car accidents in Lansing. The article highlights the fact that insurance adjusters are notorious for working to deny legitimate no-fault claims, in order to protect the bottom line.

“Adjusters will also arrange for victims to undergo so-called independent medical examinations. Too often, these exams are done by doctors who, instead of treating patients, work primarily for insurance companies. In fact, recent lawsuits have uncovered that many of these doctors perform hundreds or sometimes thousands of insurance-company examinations each year. Not surprisingly, these doctors often disregard the recommendations of the victim’s medical providers and render conclusions that the adjuster uses to cut off further medical treatment. Unfortunately, the Michigan Legislature has done nothing over the past few decades to provide the people of Michigan with any further protection against this kind of insurance company conduct.”

The Sinas Dramis Law Firm does not consider this kind of behavior just. And as consumers in Michigan, you should not either.

It is a disservice to all consumers in Michigan that insurers are failing to do so. In order to address their questionable actions, insurers need to take responsibility and step up to discuss legitimate insurance fraud in Michigan.
