‘The Celtics are the balls!’ all over again. And there’s no other reason why: Buckley

“Who’s going to emerge victorious? The Celtics! Because there’s no other explanation. The Celtics are outstanding!”

He is also explaining his reasoning, not just forecasting a Celtics victory, with a satisfaction that is neither cocky nor overconfident. He has a mischievous smile, portraying him as a youthful individual. There is no voice-over, context, or background information provided. It is just that.

The Celtics are the champions!

And there’s no other explanation for it.

The Lakers lost in the NBA Finals and the Heat advanced to the series, winning six games. The NBA bubble in Orlando ended with the Magic, but the Miami Heat set up a series against the Raptors and outlasted the 76ers. The Celtics quickly gained viral attention as a Barstool Sports video posted first, but it wasn’t as important as the Celtics from the 1980s. That video appeared to pump up the Celtics in the 2019-20 season.

And that was the end of the fascinating video and the mysterious enthusiast from the 1980s. Its 15 minutes had expired.

Except now it’s back. With the Celtics heading to the Eastern Conference semifinals after sweeping the Brooklyn Nets in the first round, the video is popping up, well, everywhere. After getting eliminated by the Heat in the Eastern Conference finals two years ago, and then getting a humbling first-round dismissal from the Nets last year, the Celtics are the balls all over again. And there’s no other explanation for it.

He left behind his wife and four children, and he was only 51 years old. Sadly, my duty was to report that Beardsley “Donnie” N. Donald died in 2015 after suffering a sudden heart attack. Two years ago, I was trying to uncover the message behind the man as I enjoyed his first celebrity tour video.

The Beardsley family was equally delighted when Donnie’s six-second declaration about the Celtics went viral two years ago, and they are equally thrilled to see the team making a comeback now.

John Beardsley, the elder of Donnie’s two offspring, expressed, “I have received feedback from a multitude of individuals. It is widely spread. Additionally, I have come across various adaptations of it. On Twitter, I witnessed a video where someone had their infant repeat my father’s statement. I found it rather commendable. It was adorable.”

John Beardsley, a graduate of UMass-Dartmouth in 2017, is currently employed as an assistant manager for a contracting firm in Boston. He was once asked to tell a tall tale when he appeared on a television station, and he said that this is the best part of it all – the fact that he is employed in a managerial position.

In West Boylston, the place they call home, Dale Anderson and his friend Donnie came across the group of people at The Fours, the famous sports bar situated across from the former Boston Garden, a couple of hours prior to the Celtics’ hosting of the Lakers in Game 5 of the 1984 NBA Finals. It was actually the NBA Entertainment team conducting interviews with fans, not a TV network, and it was only at that moment that Donnie, just a few months away from turning 21, witnessed his own contribution.

Anderson, who is now 62 years old and resides in Hollywood, Florida, where he manages a golf course supply company, expressed, “They were seeking individuals to engage in discussions about the Celtics, and Donnie always possessed the talent for conversing. I, on the other hand, was not as talkative as he was. I assumed Donnie could speak on behalf of both of us. And he exceeded expectations. I distinctly recall sitting there, concealing my face and bursting into laughter. He had the courage to undertake the task.”

The plan to sneak into the Garden and watch the game was hatched by two friends, Anderson Dale and Beardsley Donnie. They started building the filtering system in the men’s room, hiding there until the employees walked by.

“It is an incredible statement, and the manner in which he articulated it, with immense excitement and zeal. You trust him. You can sense it,” Jim Podhoretz, the director of the film, informed me that he selected the soundbite because, as he stated, “You encounter a man like that in a tavern in Boston who is evidently the typical Bostonian when he exclaims, ‘We’re the best.’ Let’s be real.” Regarding the footage, it remained unused for over three decades until ESPN stumbled upon it during the production of the “30 for 30” documentary “Celtics/Lakers: Best of Enemies.”

Donnie Beardsley, a well-known figure among Celtics fans, gained significant popularity after his unfortunate demise. It was an incredibly chaotic time, and the clip from the documentary, which was released two years ago, went viral on social media. Interestingly, the clip was originally intended to be the conclusion of the documentary, but Donnie’s uncredited appearance made his family and friends ecstatic. The documentary aired in 2017, two years after Donnie’s passing.

John Beardsley expressed, “I find it enjoyable.” “The aspect that I particularly enjoy is that during my childhood, I frequently heard my father mention on numerous occasions his experience of being interviewed at a bar, where he was questioned about the Celtics, and so on and so forth. However, since he was known for being a skilled storyteller, nobody ever took his words seriously.”

However, he is consistently eager to emphasize that he does not possess the same level of enthusiasm for the Celtics as his father did. John Beardsley supports the Celtics to a certain extent, attends games occasionally, and engages in other related activities.

It was truly a classic, reflecting on it now. However, we would be absolutely horrified as we sat there. He would always try to embarrass us by talking to the players and getting their attention. It happened pretty much every time, and the players would come out along the railing where we were sitting, and then we would always move to the next seat along the tunnel. Whenever we were kids, he would take us to the games. That’s what he said.

These are happy times for the Beardsley family. Donnie is back in the spotlight again, which he would have loved, and his beloved Boston Celtics have made it to the second round of the playoffs after toppling the Nets. As pleasant a surprise as it was to see the clip on social media two years ago, it’s even more pleasant this time around in that it means Donnie Beardsley’s famous words — “The Celtics are the champions!” — have become ingrained in Boston sports lore.

John Beardsley expressed, “He would be an avid supporter.” They are competing fiercely and displaying strong defense. He would greatly admire this team. It consistently rebounds whenever the Celtics make a move, although I initially believed it would only have a moment of success.

“I’m currently utilizing a flip phone,” as he stated, Donnie Beardsley’s sibling Andy, who manages a plumbing and heating enterprise in West Boylston, is prompt to highlight that he hasn’t been keeping tabs on the occurrences on social platforms.

However, he mentioned that nowadays almost everyone he converses with is indicating that, essentially, Donnie Beardsley has returned.

He expressed, “We couldn’t be any happier about it and this video is just another way of showing our excitement for the Celtics.” “Our whole family, including Donnie’s kids and my kids, is following it as well.”

“But I still miss the goofball. I truly do.”
