Mayer John, a renowned flame of Taylor’s and a musician, is widely assumed to be the mysterious magician ‘John Dear’, who has never officially confirmed but never reveals her secrets.

John was 32 and Taylor was 19 at the time of their break-up; the following year, they ended their brief whirlwind romance that had started towards the end of 2009.

“I didn’t receive an e-mail. I didn’t receive a phone call. I was truly taken aback, and it deeply embarrassed me during a moment when I had already been criticized,” he expressed. Mayer discussed with Rolling Stone the way their connection had been forever preserved in Taylor’s sharp verses back in 2012.

He responded, “I prefer not to delve into that,” when the interviewer inquired about the chorus line ‘Do you believe I was excessively youthful to be tampered with?’.

The singer of ‘Gravity’ expressed their opinion as a songwriter, stating that they perceive it to be somewhat deficient in quality songwriting, to the magazine.

“I am about to send the album, I’m guessing I usually don’t put this song on, but they usually want to say everything they want to say in their last email. This person usually writes this email to vent about their relationship with someone they used to be close to. Have you ever sent an email like this? Taylor explained the release of her third record, ‘Dear John’, on her website.”

Taylor Swift’s full ‘Dear John’ lyrics

[Verse 2] They instructed me to run as fast as possible when I ignored looking back with regret. I don’t understand those who don’t understand and you’ll have to add your name to my long list of traitors. Maybe you need to give love and take away your sick obsession with it. Maybe it’s my blind optimism to blame, and maybe it’s me. I think I was too young to be the girl in the messed-up dress, crying all the way home. John, dear, I see that you’re now gone, all of it. [Chorus] I wonder why you chose to let this song stop playing and pick up the phone tonight. Wondering which version of you I’ll get. Every day, you changed the rules but lived in your own chess game. I painted the sky blue, hoping it would rain and take me back. I swore I was fine, but my mother accused me of losing my mind. And once again, I find myself counting my footsteps, praying I won’t fall through the floor. Long were the nights when my days revolved around you.

I should have known that you were too young to be messed with, the girl in the dress who wrote you a song. Don’t think that I’m impressed by all the tests you’ve aced, playing twisted dark games when I loved you. Now I see it was all wrong, John, dear. Your eyes have run dry, tired and lifeless. You took out your matches before I could catch fire, but I burned you out. I’m sorry for keeping blurry lines and being an expert at being sorry. Don’t think that I’m impressed by all the girls who have been impressed by your games. Don’t think that I’m impressed by all the girls who have been impressed by your games. I should have known that you were too young to be messed with, the girl in the dress who wrote you a song. Don’t think that I’m impressed by all the girls who have been impressed by your games, John, dear.
