Definitely give this article a read if you’re a fan of hip hop. I can’t believe that many overlooked this piece, but I believe it’s because they can’t share the interesting thoughts that I had about it.

In life, Eazy E appeared like a caricature, more of a stereotype on steroids rather than a man.
He willingly acted as a puppet to his white boss, Mickey, who was a fool with cash, dancing curls, jheri curls, and shades by the roadside. He was like friends with Dre and Ice Cube, except he offended everyone, scared the authorities, and proud-and-ign’ant gun-toting, irresponsible, and heartless in the national media.
When he passed away ten years ago, on March 26, 1995, due to complications from the HIV virus, it quickly became evident that very few people truly understood the authentic Eric Wright. Despite his extraordinary life and the change he underwent towards the end, the reasons behind the criticism he faced from former friends, bandmates, employees, preachers, activists, and politicians, as well as the intimidating language he used to frighten middle America, remained unexplained.
He laughed heartily. I’m in my own world. I don’t talk to too many people. That’s how I’ve been my whole life. If it wasn’t for this business, I probably would have never talked. In his final interview, she told his publicist, Phyllis Pollack, “I remember when you hardly ever used to talk.”
The two paintings of Eazy E belong to the final days of N.W.A.
In 1989, Eazy opened the world with his first album, Straight Outta Compton, and announced the arrival of a new generation of alienated youth. The leader, Eazy, made an unlikely group of black boys into heroes, combining their firepower and record-setting with a new direction in the music industry.
Eric Wright, also known as Eazy-E, appeared to have quickly matured and transitioned from dealing drugs to wanting to turn the legitimate music business into his hustle. By the early ’80s, he had already been seen around the hip-hop scene in Los Angeles, where he had saved as much as $250,000 from his drug dealings. According to Mazik Abraham, a member of the group Blood of Abraham, Eazy-E had scars and dimples on his knuckles, indicating that he had lived a life of hustling and violence. If you looked at Eazy-E’s hands, you would see the remnants of the street life he grew up in, mostly on the Crip-infested streets of Compton.
Alonzo Williams, the owner and leader of the Wrecking Cru, backed the careers of all his members, including his childhood friend O’Shea “Ice Cube” Jackson from South Central, whom he encouraged to write explicit lyrics. Dre and Yella, who were renowned DJs on the influential AM hip-hop radio station, KDAY, were also part of the World Class Wrecking Cru and would often entertain the crowd at Eve’s After Dark Club in Compton, along with Wright.
Cube remembers, “We were all somewhat devoted to these groups, so we decided to form an all-star group and create explicit records as a side project.” Cube was a member of C.I.A., I belonged to the World Class Wreckin Cru, Dre was also part of the World Class Wreckin Cru, and Eazy had a companion named Ron- De-Vu. Wright initiated separate conversations with Dre, Yella, and Cube.
In one night, Heller seized the rappers belonging to Eazy from Alonzo. During the time when Heller had Eazy as part of his team, he previously promoted Creedence Clearwater Revival, Pink Floyd, Elton John, and REO Speedwagon. To be introduced to a white, Jewish manager named Jerry Heller in the Valley, Eazy paid Alonzo $750. Cube and Dre, who were responsible for selling numerous records and launching Eazy’s label, Ruthless Records, persuaded Eazy E to rap “Boyz N The Hood” and achieved great success in the ghetto.

The group went on to make history. In 1990, Straight Outta Compton, by Compton’s own platinum-selling group, had gone. Despite riots in some cities, their tour grossed $650,000. The FBI had issued a letter asking their label to stop selling the record, fueling a debate over the treatment of women in music and the treatment of police, gays, and women.
Eazy couldn’t believe his luck. He could milk controversy for everything. He told a reporter that, “we’re not disrespecting women, we’re disrespecting bitches”. She is someone who carries herself in a stuck-up way, she is a bitch. Everyone except me fucks someone who is a bitch. Every woman is a woman.
We should not be afraid to express our opinions to others. Why should we care so much about what others think of us? We should not give a damn about what others think of us. They should not give a damn about what we think of them either. In South Africa, nobody is wearing a button that says “Free California” or “Free Compton.” I bet there is no such thing as black power in Africa. We should not give a fuck about that. Chuck continued to talk about how he is involved in all things related to the black community.
Eazy sneered at his detractors, expressing his ability to harm them with a pen. President George H.W. Bush met with Eazy during a lunch, as Eazy contributed $2,500 to the Republican Party. Willie Dee from the Geto Boys criticized Eazy, calling him a “sellout.” Eazy acknowledged Briseño’s efforts to intervene and stop others, and expressed his support for Ted Briseño, one of the officers involved in Rodney King’s beating. Eazy believed that any form of publicity would benefit his business.
The persona of Eazy E, the hardcore rapper and Republican airhead entrepreneur, was often hilarious and exasperating, but also exhilarating and ruthless. He embodied an unscrupulous and misogynistic gangsta image that he remained unrepentant about.
It had to come to a close
“No Vaseline,” Cube’s blistering response to N.W.A.’S public disrespect towards him, showcased the lyrics “Eric Wright, coward, constantly involved in mischief, being taken advantage of at night by Mr. Shitpacker/Bend over for the damn cracker, no Vaseline.” Following his departure from the band due to unresolved conflicts with Jerry Heller, Cube had only received $23,000 for the tour and $32,700 for the album, despite the three million copies sold by Straight Outta Compton and Eazy Duz It. Ice Cube was the initial member to depart.
Later, Eazy said that he had a fight with them or they kicked his ass. I had figured that I would sign the papers, but I was either hurt or threatened by his family and Eazy invited me into his office. When Knight needed Eazy to sign the contracts for Dre’s and D.O.C’s, he called Death Row and invited Eazy to have them signed. D.O.C., Who had recently had his former label stolen by another former guard named Suge Knight, left Dre to work for Knight as a security guard.
After signing the papers, Dre unleashed a devastating string of indelible disses, giving way to the untouchable black thug image as Eazy of himself, unable to handle the business.
He joked, “My payday is secured in Day Dre’s clauses, even collecting royalties through secured had he clauses through royalties collected even. Thugs-N-Harmony Bone multi-platinum surprising the and Ren with hits scoring was he, and records selling millions were his. His company Eazy’s was valued at over $20 million. Ruthless Records was on its way to another peak. Only Yella remained close to Eazy,” said Ren. “I don’t need to be around anyone who’s self-destructing,” he added. “I didn’t have the talent to match up with Dre and Cube, but I became obsessed with answering them,” Eazy expressed disgust with his old Compton homie MC, Even.

After the death of Eazy E, the year marked the first time that the indie label Ruthless, which was one of the biggest independent labels of all time, outsold the major labels and became the largest black-owned indie label since Motown, which had just built the biggest indie label in history. Jay-Z, Master P, and P-Diddy were able to see the breakthroughs that Eazy E, an entrepreneur in the rap industry, paved the way for a new breed of entrepreneur rap.
Eazy was entering the final phase of his life when he publicly split with his friends, but these rappers were watching him closely and learning from him.
Mazik Saevitz and Benyad “Ben” Mor witnessed a distinct aspect of Eazy E.
Benyad declares that business was everything to him, so he was a businessman who understood power. He quotes Machiavelli and is highly knowledgeable. He was the embodiment of the term ‘Machiavellian’ and was extremely cunning. He exuded an aura of silence, making him the perfect example of a true ‘bad boy’ every day. He was exceptionally reserved. He had his unique approach, but there was no doubt that Eazy was a complete gangster.
“Completely devoid of pretense. The way he conversed with you or interacted with women, in how he showed lack of respect towards anyone, you hardly ever witnessed. He exuded a sense of tranquility and displayed a mild-mannered demeanor throughout.”
Benyad, a civil engineer and the son of an Israeli engineer, had been running into trouble and was sent from Las Vegas to live with his grandmother in the San Fernando Valley. He recently graduated from Birmingham High School in Van Nuys and was working minimum wage retail jobs at the Topanga Mall. Benyad and Mazik, two Jewish kids from the Valley, performed Cooley & O Rodney and Twins Throwdown with other hip-hop crews at the Anaheim Theater, where they got their introduction.
He wasn’t trying to sign them, but he was polite when they spotted Eazy E at Mall Topanga occasionally. Eazy showed no action but expressed interest where they freestyled, they ran into Eazy at a club called Spice in Hollywood and they began calling themselves Abraham’s Blood. They cut two demos and got connected with a seasoned producer named Epic. The two were huge fans of the underground hip-hop scene, eagerly devouring tapes from Soul La De, KMD, Smooth CL, and Rock Pete.

When I came with other companies, you shouldn’t mess around. If you can do anything with this crowd, you know, like he was, he saw that show and we were talking to other people, Eazy knew.
He had perfect pitch, and Eazy E decided that he wanted the group. Abraham of Blood, one of the interested majors in signing, demanded a closing deal before sheet lyrics. Major labels were reluctant to sign any new acts that might make outspoken political statements, especially in the wake of the controversy surrounding Ice-T’s “Cop Killer” T-shirts. It was an odd fit for Abraham of Blood, a gangsta rap mogul from Compton, and the politically-minded, underground hip-hop styled duo from the Jewish Valley of Rap. They openly confronted the role of religion and the situation in the Middle East in their songs, presenting a kind of risk that was unique.
“Benyad reminisces,” he said. “He believed that he saw the potential in white MCs, and he thought I was just a business-minded individual. I don’t want to hear whatever nonsense you’re talking about. “You need to be where you’re supposed to be,” he told the militant guys.”
They were spending the last years of life with him. Eminem became Dre’s act before years, adopting the white persona of Eazy E, the Blood of Abraham.
Eazy-E welcomed the children into the group.
Benyad remembers, “We’re aware of the next big thing in Vegas – gambling!” In just two hours, we’ll be at LAX, ready to go to Vegas. He said, “You would like to join us, right?” As he enters the house, he brings me a sandwich and I see my dad, Eazy E, watering the lawn. He picks me up in his luxurious Mercedes V12 from our big house.
‘I now want everything in order, but I want everything now. Why would I like to waste all that food every time? He would always take a little bite off each plate and take a sip out of each of them. He would always get us a coke and a glass of milk, a virgin piña colada, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and he would always take us to Jerry’s Deli,’ says Mazik.

Mazik needed a place to stay when Eazy had to go up there for some time, so he had another master bedroom. There was a staircase that went up to that, and I had the downstairs master bedroom. There was a little gym pool Jacuzzi. And when you walk into the foyer, there was a little bush behind which Chucky, a little hiding, had miniature monsters to collect.
According to Benyad, there was constant conflict, resembling a full-fledged war. The issue of security was always present. Even after the release of It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa in 1993, Eazy was still engaged in disputes with his former NWA bandmates and their associates. Lawsuits were filed against Death Row and Sony regarding Dre’s contract. Benyad reveals that Eazy sold marijuana for recreational purposes and was quite wealthy, but always carried large quantities in his car trunk, as he would purchase it from friends. In many ways, he remained unchanged. Eazy would walk around with bundles of cash tucked in his sock and his baseball cap would be filled with joints made with licorice-flavored Rizla papers.
There were just a few shots from the parking lot, and we were walking into a venue a few times,” says Benyad. “Those people coming out to see us are all the real gangsters from that city or the wannabes, and everybody knows the reputation of NWA.” Eazy joined Abraham of Blood, Profits to promote their debut album Future on tour dates in the South and Midwest.
Except for when he could ditch them, Eazy-E traveled with three bodyguards at all times for the safety and anonymity that Nordstrom’s at the Valley Mall provided. He knew they had been driven there by somebody as there was a video shoot over, and shots were fired. The shooting took place in a burned-out store, and it was in the central South, right after the L.A. Riots.
As Tomika, his girlfriend, seemed to want to spend more time at his house in Torrance, Wood noticed that Eazy, his older brother, acted as if he wanted to spend more time with them. He started to transform in an astonishing yet subtle way.
He went to elementary schools to speak, taking personally black rodeos and inner-city youths on busloads to Disneyland and Magic Mountain, where businesses sponsored fairs and public streets threw. Later, Suge would practice a standard for rappers’ nouveau riche, handing out turkeys for Thanksgiving. He formed partnerships with other organizations and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, providing charity for children with life-threatening diseases. He gave away thousands to needy children.
In his final interview with Phyllis Pollack, the man who had previously expressed indifference towards politics, voiced his frustration about politicians consistently attempting to suppress something that is both influential and associated with the Black community. Specifically, he criticized C. Delores Tucker and other individuals who criticized gangsta rap. According to him, these critics aim to regress society to a time when slavery was prevalent. He further highlighted the implementation of strict three-strikes laws, where even possessing marijuana could result in the revocation of one’s driver’s license, as an example of nonsensical and unjust regulations.
They never got there. However, rumors began to circulate about the possibility of A.W.N. Making a comeback and Jerry Heller being fired. Eazy began to patch up his relationships with Dre and Cube, and he often played music from Death Row Records on his top-rated radio show, The Beat FM 92.3 KKBT. But in 1994, when Eazy started his own label, Ruthless Radio Show, a partial reunion called Eazy Without Niggaz–N.W.E. Was publicly discussed by Dre and Cube.
The fact was, according to Benyad, “Eazy E adored
Eazy’s habits at the Mazik mansion in Calabasas were about learning more and spending a lot of money on lap-dances and liquor at strip joints. After his shows, he would take his huge entourage of boys to push them up and have dinner with girls who had names like stars in porn movies or (Hoez Attitude). Benyad and Mazik often took him out for dinner.
They would be stuck. You couldn’t call out, so he had this code on the phone. Eazy left me here three days ago. I can get something to eat, and my name is Mercedes. I’d get a knock, and I’d be up in the room with my girlfriend at the time.
“Hello?” I would say, “Hello?” And suddenly I would hear someone say, “Hello?” Occasionally, I would go upstairs. Due to their feelings of loneliness, they would attempt to spend time with us. They would ask, “Could you contact Eazy and inform him?” Or “Where is he?” Or “I wish to return home.” It is uncertain where they originate from. Subsequently, it would be a female.
Benyad says Eazy never talked to them about AIDS. Instead, “he talked to us about the importance of us using sheepskin condoms.”.
“‘They’re pricier and they give you a better sense of well-being,'” Mazik says Eazy informed them.
“They’re no good. That’s the irony,” concludes Benyad. “They’re porous. So whoop, there it is. It all went down pretty fast, man.”.
In February 1995, Eazy-E saw Mazik and Benyad for the last time. It was the same time that his publicist, Phyllis Pollack, interviewed him for press materials. The record The Compton Muthaphukkin’ Streets Off Str8 became what he was reportedly recording as the second album with Slash and Dre of Guns N’ Roses. They were planning to collaborate with various artists for the album.
Benyad stated, “We’re outdoors, the sun is setting, and he possessed a car full of marijuana. I would frequently contact him.” “Therefore, we are inhaling a marijuana cigarette just outside the recording studio and he had a severe cough. I said, ‘Hey, you should relax on the marijuana for a while, buddy. Prioritize taking care of your cold. You won’t recover if you continue smoking weed.’ He responded, ‘No worries, man, it’s all good.’ A week later, he ended up in the hospital.”
His attorney Ron Sweeney released a courageous declaration–the utmost significant of his existence–on March 16. In demise, he demonstrated even more magnanimous than he had in existence. Physicians conducted examinations and determined he was HIV-positive and did not have a lengthy lifespan. On February 24, Eazy E admitted himself to the hospital for what he and his dearest companions believed was a situation of persistent asthma.
I read the statement about folks caring to hear all kinds of stories, and it feels like now is the time to testify, but I may not seem like a guy you’d pick to preach a sermon.
Eazy proceeded to confess that he had fathered seven offspring by six distinct mothers. “Perhaps prosperity was excessively favorable to me.
I want to reach out to all my homeboys and kin before it’s too late, because there’s a real problem that could turn into something good for me and others like me when AIDS comes. I have thousands and thousands of young fans who I’ve got to learn what it really means.
Wright demonstrated bravery and poise in his final moments. Ultimately, by revealing his illness, he earned the admiration of numerous individuals who had once criticized him.
