After a months-long absence, Former President Donald Trump returned to Fox News on Monday for an extended interview with host Sean Hannity.
As former president Trump prepares for his potential indictment from a grand jury in Manhattan investigating his conduct both inside and outside of his presidency, he finds himself caught in a whirlwind of investigations. In the midst of this, Trump is bracing himself for a stormy payment to Stormy Daniels in 2016, as he tries to hush up the star’s involvement in his campaign. Additionally, Trump is gassing up his 2024 campaign.
Trump denied the allegations that his posts about Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and the investigation into the Daniels payment were inciting violence. In response, he clarified that he “did not advocate for any harmful actions. Rather, he expressed concern that certain individuals might take matters into their own hands.” This clarification came after being questioned about a post in which he warned of “severe consequences” if he were to face indictment.
Trump asserted that he had no knowledge of the chosen picture in the article, wherein he appeared holding a baseball bat alongside a photo of Bragg, which related to a distinct Truth Social post featuring the ex-president.
The primary elections pose a more pressing challenge, as Trump’s mind is burdened by the approaching 2024 presidential election. Trump repeatedly asserted during the interview that the inquiries targeting him were “a novel method of electoral fraud” and a type of “election meddling” orchestrated against him.
DeSantis said that adding a pizza parlor would be a working place without help. “I got him the endorsement,” said Trump, “begging him to come with tears in his eyes” to run up in his primary race in 2019. At one point, Trump told Hannity that DeSantis owed him his career as governor of Florida, pointing out that DeSantis had harsh words for his potential GOP primary opponent.
In typical Trump style, the interview was filled with self-damaging statements and laughable assertions.
Trump claimed that the Presidential Records Act grants him the power to “take stuff” as he pleases, stating that it definitely does not. During the discussion on the Mar-a-Lago Documents investigation, the topic of his unauthorized retention of classified documents was brought up multiple times. Trump insisted that he would have handed over all the documents to the FBI if they had simply requested it (which they did), and he also asserted that President Biden retained a greater number of documents than him (which he did not). Spoiler alert.
Trump was informed by Hannity that he had a way to solve the crisis in Ukraine within 24 hours, as he assumed that he couldn’t explain how he did it because it was absolutely brilliant and real.
During this specific moment, it was apparent how Trump felt about the ban placed by the Murdochs. According to one source close to Trump, the ban was seen as indicative of how Trump feels about the Murdochs. It has been reported that the ban was a result of a soft ban placed by network executives in March, and Trump has not appeared on Fox since September. This interview was particularly notable as it covered a large portion of Trump’s recent controversies.
In the first month of this year, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has mentioned multiple times on Fox News that a study by Media Matters for America found potential challenges for the Republican primary in 2024. The weekly invitations from the network seem to have exacerbated the slight incense towards Trump, but it wasn’t enough to warrant a timeout.
He penned, “FoxNews is vigorously and extensively promoting Ron DeSanctus to the extent that there is limited time remaining for Authentic News.” In February, the ex-president vehemently criticized the network on Truth Social, alleging that they were artificially boosting DeSantis’ fame. Trump, naturally, has noticed and reacted to this change.
Trump experienced a total breakdown due to the remarks. In March, legal papers disclosed that Rupert Murdoch confessed to investigators that anchors on the network disseminated inaccurate assertions regarding the election and alleged electoral misconduct, and that corporate leaders had the potential to intervene and stop their dissemination.
If the former president is willing, the strained relationship between Trump and Fox may be bygones, only if he ensures to shape the fighting in 2024.
