Dustin Poirier teased Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler after the news that they will compete against each other in the octagon.
McGregor hasn’t been seen in the cage since fracturing his fibula and tibia in the first round of his third fight with Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.
Due to the inconclusive nature of their trilogy tiebreaker bout, ‘The Diamond’ and McGregor have suggested that their combat sports careers are finished before their fourth fight for a time.
McGregor and Chandler will go head-to-head on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ later this year, following their stint as co-coaches. UFC president Dana White confirmed on Saturday that the upcoming fight will not be their immediate next matchup.
And despite failing to register for the United States Anti-Doping Agency, as of yet, the Irishman is allowed to be a coach.
Chandler took to social media to react to the news of his former opponents’ submission win over Poirier, coming in the third round.
He humorously tweeted: “The Ultimate Fighter – edition featuring all my offspring.”
Poirier’s father is implying that he, by taking things a step further, removed him from the equation in 2016, where he mercilessly defeated Michael Johnson, leading to him quickly becoming the target of the joke. Nonetheless.
Johnson wrote a caption alongside a picture that showed him as the senior figure in a family portrait with Chandler and McGregor, saying, “I could cry. Seeing my grandchildren, I am proud. Happy day in the Johnson household!”
The timing of McGregor and Chandler’s fight is currently uncertain, however, Chandler is anticipating a victory by knockout.
“I’m going to take a step backwards to make him feel my presence from the very beginning wherever the fight takes us, and I’m going to get in his face.”
If I want to take down him and pick him up, I believe I can finish Conor in my second round, later this year, in my rematch with Mike Mystic. I aim to secure a submission and defeat him.
White recently disclosed that the duo will journey to Las Vegas later this month to initiate the filming of TUF and deliberate on precise particulars regarding the bout.
He said, “However, I do not possess any belongings. I do not have a specific date. I do not have a location. Yet, we do not have any specific information about the fight.”
“The coaches are probably going to get here on Monday after the Super Bowl and we’ll get a lot of this stuff figured out.”
What do we know about the 31st season of the wildly successful reality-based MMA show? The final episode of the show will not take place until after Chandler vs. McGregor airs, and it will run from August 15th to May 30th.
