Believers flocking to statue of ‘weeping’ Virgin Mary in Catholic Church in New Mexico

WATCH: Believers are flocking to a Catholic Church in Hobbs, New Mexico where a statue of the Virgin Mary began “crying” during Sunday Mass last week. Now a team from the local diocese will be investigating the statue to determine if the tears are something heavenly, or something else – May 28, 2018

In the southeastern region of New Mexico, visitors are drawn to a Catholic church where a statue of the Virgin Mary is attracting believers, causing tears to flow from the statue’s face.

According to the Hobbs News-Sun, the sculpture shed tears, as it did for a number of hours on the previous Sunday. On Tuesday, individuals who visited the bronze figure situated within the secondary structure of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church made this statement.

Church manager Judy Ronquillo said, “On Tuesday, when it occurred, who was present in the establishment, tears were streaming down her face once more.”

Ronquillo mentioned that the statue started shedding tears when the group inside the church concluded a Rosary.

“She exclaimed, ‘It’s breathtaking. The tears are not watery; instead, they resemble oil and possess a rose-like fragrance.'”

Laura Cisneros, another member of the parish, was also in attendance on Tuesday. She and her family were present at the Sunday Mass when the statue started shedding tears. She describes the experience as “astonishing.”

According to Ronquillo, the Tuesday visitors came from different regions of southeast New Mexico and west Texas, which include San Antonio and El Paso.

One of them was Brian Morales, a resident of Odessa. After being involved in a car collision one year ago, he expressed his belief that God intervened and saved his life. Morales is convinced that he had a near-death experience, during which he encountered a divine presence. According to him, this was the initial occurrence out of three similar incidents.

Morales expressed, “The divine has bestowed his grace upon me.” “I have become a transformed individual and have witnessed his presence. I felt the need to come here. He is the reason I am alive. I aspire to assist individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer and eventually pursue higher education. It is remarkable how events unfold in the presence of the revered Virgin Mary.”

According to Ronquillo, the church has remained open without interruption since the statue started shedding tears on May 20. The parishioners and church staff have been monitoring the statue, taking turns. On Tuesday afternoon, there was a line of approximately 100 people waiting to visit it, stretching from one side of the auxiliary room to the next, near the entrance of the building.

Visitors are only restricted from approaching the statue during the church’s morning and evening Mass ceremonies.

Ronquillo said, “If you believe in your heart, you don’t have to just witness a miracle, you have to be a Catholic. ‘Yes!’ Is the answer, and if they ask, we’ve had people who aren’t Catholic but could come.” “As long as we are going to stay open, it takes it.”
