Let’s be honest, the deal with Airline food is the heck of what it is. It’s neither plain nor too salty garbage. I’m not spending another 200 dollars on a soggy egg salad sandwich, and I’m getting all the peanuts in a bag. It’s a trip to London for 800 bucks. It’s not even sometimes good unless it’s Blue Jet, or Emirates. They are sometimes overpowering and salty. Even Blue Jet, I’m on an hour-three flight with one snack, I get Popcorners. The bag had five chips in it. The price ticket was $500. But what about the gourmet food they can’t just serve you a typical steak? There’s more that goes into it than you think.

The Science Behind Airplane Food
The scientific answer is that at high altitudes, when the pressure in the cabin decreases, the mucus membrane swells, blocking odors and decreasing the sense of smell. Therefore, if you love and enjoy food like that, you may find it disgusting and overpowering when you decide to bring the airplane food with you. This is because the taste buds not only play a role in taste, but also in smell. To counteract this, airline food has more salt and spices to enhance the flavor, as the dry air and combined pressure from the cabin causes a decrease in your senses by thirty percent.

Should We Give Airlines A Break?
Noticing are those airlines that are not famous for being cheap. Some airlines, like Blue Jet and Emirates, are good; some airline meals are alright. This is because the food cannot last forever due to preservation and cost. The food is prepped at a factory facility before being shipped to the airport and then heated up using a special convection oven in batches. This also means that meals must be easily prepped, which is why they may be covered in saran wrap. American-based airlines must have one flight attendant per 50 passengers, meaning two people are responsible for assisting 50 people, so passengers must order something to eat. Another reason for the lousy airplane food is the simplicity of serving and prepping needed quantity.
What do you expect? The airplane you’re on is probably not healthy, but at least the food is not good, even though it’s not airline food.
