Based on police reports, a different individual was accused on Tuesday in relation to the savage murder and dismemberment of Hong Kong-based model Abby Choi.
The situation captivated residents of Hong Kong and beyond as authorities discovered additional body parts — including a human skull — at a different rural dwelling. The horrifying finding was quickly connected to Choi when the police discovered severed body parts stored inside a refrigerator at an apartment in Lung Mei Tsuen, a suburb of Hong Kong. Two days later, on February 22, Choi, 28, was reported as being missing.
Jenny Li, the 63-year-old mother of Kau Kwong, 65, and Anthony Kwong, 31, has already been charged with murder. Alex Kwong, the 28-year-old ex-husband of Choi, has also been charged with perverting the course of justice. The family members, including Kau Kwong, Anthony Kwong, and Alex Kwong, have been denied bail. They have not yet entered a plea.
According to the police, Choi’s former spouse was apprehended on February 25th at a pier in Hong Kong. Allegedly, he attempted to escape on a high-speed boat carrying HK$500,000 ($86,500) in cash and numerous extravagant timepieces valued at millions of dollars.
In this instance, she is the seventh individual to be apprehended and her identity has not been disclosed to the public. She was taken into custody by law enforcement in mainland China, charged with aiding another individual linked to the homicide, and is a 29-year-old female.
She was arrested and turned over to the police in Shenzhen’s Port Bay on Tuesday. The authorities believe the suspect participated in the crime and then fled to mainland China from Hong Kong, as reported by the Associated Press.
Two extra suspects have also been charged with aiding in the offenses.
Choi, a social media influencer who had more than 100,000 followers on Instagram, was featured in a photo shoot for Monaco L’Officiel fashion magazine. Her last post on Feb 19th garnered a flood of comments and messages expressing condolences and wishing her peace in light of her disappearance.
Reportedly, Choi had financial disagreements with her former spouse’s family, involving millions of Hong Kong dollars (equivalent to millions of Canadian dollars). Previously, law enforcement stated that there were individuals who expressed dissatisfaction with Choi’s management of her financial affairs and assets.
Choi had four children between the ages of three and 10. The older two were taken care of by her ex-husband, Kwong, who is now being looked after by Choi’s mother. After their divorce in 2016, Choi married another man who is the father of her younger children, and they are currently staying with his family. Even after their divorce, Choi reportedly maintained a close relationship with Kwong’s family.
The criminal activity is currently under investigation by law enforcement. The court proceeding has been postponed until May 8. Kwong and his relatives attended the court hearing on February 27.
