In May 2022, Australian filmmaker Baz Lurhmann received praise for his biopic about the life of Lisa Marie Presley’s father, Elvis Presley. She described her sadness over the loss of her late son Benjamin Keough and expressed that she will never be able to see the film.
Presley’s sorrowful posts grieving for her son came just months before she herself passed away at the age of 54 on Thursday.
The loss of my son will forever be mourned, and I must admit that there isn’t really much solace to be found in the fact that she began saying this through a series of tweets in May 2022, as some of them haven’t been posted online yet.
Benjamin, the offspring of Presley and musician Danny Keough, died in 2020 as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot injury. He was 27 years of age.
Navigating through this hideous grief, my soul has been almost entirely swallowed and my heart shattered and completely destroyed, she tweeted.
She praised the film’s director, Baz Luhrmann, and actor Austin Butler, who stars in the titular role of “Elvis,” the biopic she had seen about her father twice.
“If he doesn’t get an Oscar for this, I will definitely be eating my own foot. In my humble opinion, his performance is finally and unprecedentedly done, respectfully and accurately. Austin Butler beautifully embodies and channels my father’s exquisite soul and heart. Let me tell you, it is absolutely magnificent, nothing short of spectacular.”
By their emotional reactions, Presley was moved to tears and she watched the film with her three children, Riley, Harper, and Finley.
She posted on Twitter, “in a manner that I have never encountered before, and his impact and their grandfather about with pride filled so profoundly, the most overwhelmed visibly 3 All.”
In a separate post on Twitter, though, Presley mentioned that she departed the movie viewing with thoughts about her deceased son, Benjamin.
She expressed, “It saddens me deeply that my son is not present to witness it. He would have undeniably adored it as well.” “I cannot stress enough how deeply I cherish this movie and I sincerely hope you feel the same way. The dedication of everyone involved, as apparent in their performances, shows the immense passion and commitment they put into it.”
Last month, Presley had expressed admiration for Lurhmann’s “Elvis” after attending a private showing of the movie.
In April 2022, on Facebook, she wrote, “WOW!!!” And each of them looked at each other as we watched the film Halfway through. It is truly outstanding how Austin Butler, who played Elvis, delivered a unique and artistically brilliant performance in Baz’s creatively and brilliantly told true story.
According to TMZ, it was reported that her mother, Priscilla Presley, suffered a heart attack at her residence in Calabasas, California, on Thursday, leading to her death.
Priscilla Presley expressed in a statement on Thursday, “With deep sorrow, I am compelled to inform you that my beloved daughter Lisa Marie has departed from this world.” “She embodied immense zeal, resilience, and affection, making her the most remarkable woman I have ever encountered.”
Presley’s spokesperson also verified her passing in a statement to Insider.
“The statement from Presley’s representative expressed that amidst this extremely challenging period, they request privacy and are deeply appreciative of the backing, affection, and well wishes from all individuals. The Presley family and Priscilla Presley are in a state of shock and anguish due to the heartbreaking loss of their cherished Lisa Marie.”
