He was urged by one of his professors to participate in a production called “Bound Outward” for the Award Drama in Florida State. This led him to consider a career as a police officer, and his dreams of playing football ended when he was wounded in a vehicle accident. He was then injured in his first season, aspired to be a professional football player, and attended Palm Beach Junior High School in Lake Worth, where he received a college football scholarship before attending the University of Florida. Prior to that, he had served in the United States Army and his father was the chief police officer of Riviera Beach.
