Executive producer Joshua Safran stated in August 2017, during the celebration of the show’s 10-year anniversary, that the reason behind keeping their personal drama separate from the show was that they did not want it to interfere. Safran expressed admiration for the actors’ ability to maintain their professionalism, stating, “They concealed it from everyone, showcasing their exceptional talent. I am still amazed at how they managed to keep it under wraps. They successfully hid the breakup from the crew, a feat that would be nearly impossible to achieve today.” Safran revealed, “I only discovered Blake and Penn’s breakup months after it had happened, while we were filming the season 2 finale.”
Following three years of being in a relationship, Badgley and Lively went their separate ways, as confirmed by Us Weekly in October 2010. At the time, a source informed Us Weekly that “They are experts” and that they continue to spend time together on the set and maintain a strong friendship.

Behind the scenes, Badgley and Lively didn’t encounter any problems despite the drama on-screen among all of the characters.
