He Wants to Order (alternatively referred to as she wants to order or they want to order) is an internet meme that emerged in July 2022, stemming from a Tumblr post originally published on the platform.
They were at Jollibee’s. @Yochtclub informed Know Your Meme in a remark on TikTok that the subtitle suggests they were at McDonald’s, but it was reposted by Tumblr user poppy-ghost on July 22nd, 2022, accumulating over 12,000 notes in a month before it was. The post obtained over 14,000 likes. A Snapchat banner reads, “He wants to order.” Captioned, “at Mcdonald’s,” a selfie where Instagram user @dantesancerre is leaning over him from the passenger seat of a car ordering food at the drive-thru was published by now-deleted Twitter user @yochtclub on July 14th, 2022.
The picture served as inspiration for a diverse range of Twitter users to create redraws based on the original image, taking very little time to also include a variation that says “She wants to order.” On August 21st, 2022, @sleepybawoonman, a Twitter user, shared a redraw of the meme where the people were replaced with Cuphead characters. This post received over 3,300 likes and 330 retweets within two days (as shown below). On August 22nd, 2022, @suguruhrs, another Twitter user, shared the photo with a caption that said, “someone draw this as Gojo and Geto I beg.” This post gained over 9,500 likes and 700 retweets in just one day.
The meme known as “Two Characters” has become popular throughout the years, even growing in size and gaining multiple redraws. Although the characters in the meme are non-binary and refer to themselves as “They”, there are still rare occasions where they want to order food and depict themselves as a driver and passenger in a car. The meme has also led to the creation of popular pairings, including two females and one male character.
