Curtis concluded her acceptance speech by giving recognition to her deceased parents, renowned Hollywood icons Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh.
“And my mother and my father were both nominated for Oscars in different categories — I just won an Oscar,” she said.
Here’s a look at Curtis’ parents, who inspired her to follow in their footsteps but also carve out her own successful path.
A look at Tony Curtis
He received an Oscar nomination for his performance in the 1959 film “Some Like It Hot.” Some of his notable films included “The Boston Strangler,” “Spartacus,” and “Some Like It Hot.” Tony Curtis worked in the film industry for six decades, starring in over 100 classic movies.
Curtis was born in 1925 to Hungarian Jewish immigrants in the Bronx, New York. When he was eight years old, he was sent to live in an orphanage due to his parents’ extreme poverty and his mother Helen’s struggle with schizophrenia.
Curtis served in the Navy during World War II and upon his return to New York, he enrolled in acting classes. He quickly married Janet Leigh in 1951, but their marriage ended in divorce in 1962.
Curtis died from a cardiac arrest at the age of 85 in New York Times in 2010. Throughout his life, Curtis starred in movies, although the number of his roles began to decline in the mid-1960s.
A look at Janet Leigh
Janet Leigh, well-known as the heroine in Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho,” was also famous as an author, dancer, and actress, and she was known for her roles in “Little Women” and “Bye Bye Birdie” in the outfield for the Angels.
According to her Biography, Leigh entered into an agreement with MGM shortly after being discovered by actress Norma Shearer in the late 1940s. She was born in California in 1927 to Dutch immigrants.
Despite not winning the Oscar for her iconic performance in “Psycho,” Leigh received the Academy Award nomination solely for it. However, she did earn the Golden Globe award for her performance in 1961.
The notorious shower scene — Leigh’s character is attacked in the shower — haunted Leigh throughout her personal and career endeavors.
“Looper” stated that Leigh disclosed, “I ceased using showers and now exclusively use baths” over twenty years following “Psycho.” Leigh further mentioned that in situations where she is limited to showering, she takes precautions by securing all entry points of the house. Furthermore, she keeps the bathroom door ajar and leaves the shower curtain pulled back.
She stated, “And in that context, I’m lucky.” “I’ve appeared in numerous movies, but I suppose if an actor can be recognized for one character then they’re extremely fortunate.”
‘OG Nepo Baby’ Jamie Lee Curtis outperforms her parents
Jamie Lee Curtis, with a blend of feelings, acquired the designation in the “nepo baby” realm, securing her a position in Curtis’ renowned lineage. She is the offspring of Hollywood nobility and her journey as an actress commenced at the age of 19 in “Halloween”.
In a nutshell, they are really good at making it and most of the time they got a good hand dealt to them. Nepo babies, derived from “nepotism,” are successful actors, musicians, comedians, and others who have successful and famous relatives or parents.
When the nepotism baby, also known as “OG nepo baby,” first emerged, Curtis appeared to be annoyed by the label but seemed to embrace it as time went on. The nepotism baby, which gained considerable attention last year, became the center of Curtis’ focus.
Curtis posted on Instagram alongside a childhood family picture, stating, “Every day in my career, I am constantly reminded that I am the offspring of renowned actors.” “It’s intriguing how we instantly jump to conclusions and make derogatory comments, assuming that an individual connected to a famous person in their profession, particularly in the realm of artistic expression, lacks any sort of ability. I have come to realize that this belief is utterly false.”
In recent interviews and award ceremonies, Curtis has begun to accept her position as a nepo offspring, referencing the term in recent weeks.
“But the fact remains: I’m 64 years old, and this is simply astonishing,” Curtis recently expressed while accepting her SAG Award, according to Vanity Fair. “I understand that when you see me, you may think, oh, she’s only there because of her connections, and I completely understand that.”
