In the near future, there will only be three operational Kmart stores remaining in the United States.
The Kmart store in Avenel, New Jersey, located 15 miles south of New York City, is set to permanently close on Saturday.
According to the website of the liquidation company, SB360 Capital Partners is overseeing the sale of the store closure.
As per various reports, in a retail industry currently controlled by Walmart, Target, and Amazon, the quantity of Kmarts in the United States – formerly exceeding 2,000 – will dwindle to merely three within the contiguous United States, with a few additional stores in other locations, once it closes down.
Kmart will continue to operate in various locations across the continental United States, including Bridgehampton in Long Island, New York, Miami in Florida, and Westwood in New Jersey.
Costco’s operating hours: Costco’s specified hours for senior citizens and special hours in response to COVID-19 will end this week, and the stores will be closed on Easter.

The Associated Press reported on Monday that Transformco, the owner of Kmart and Sears, did not provide a response to an email requesting a comment, and the company’s listed phone number was not accepting any messages.
Transformco, the corporate identity by which they were sustained on a limited financial plan, is possessed by their enduring investor and Chief Executive Officer, Eddie Lampert. Sears Holdings, which initiated Chapter 11 bankruptcy safeguard in 2018 and narrowly evaded complete dissolution in the beginning of 2019, possessed both Sears and Kmart.
In total, Sears and Kmart have shut down over 3,500 stores and eliminated approximately 250,000 positions in the last 15 years.
In 1962, Kmart’s establishment happened by chance just a few months after Walmart’s inception, which also happened to take place a few months after Kmart’s establishment in 1962. This was influenced by a decline in sales over the years, evolving shopping patterns, and the dominant presence of Walmart. Kmart’s decline has been gradual yet consistent.
Michael Lisicky, an author from Baltimore who has written multiple books about the history of retail in the United States, expressed, “Kmart was an integral part of American culture. It offered a wide range of products including stationery, candy, sporting goods, and toys. They had an extensive selection that catered to everyone’s needs. Visiting Kmart was not only a shopping experience but also a social outing. It was a place where one could spend hours browsing. Whether you were a fan or not, Kmart stores were a common sight throughout America over the years.”
The initial salary range for fresh truck drivers at Walmart falls between $95,000 and $110,000 following the raise in wages.
The company said that in release news, January was closed in a Fort Lauderdale, Florida Sears instance. It still lists locations that have already been shuttered. The store locator website for Sears was also not accurate as of Monday.
The strategy for Kmart and Sears going forward, as stated in the Transformco release in January, is to operate a diversified portfolio of stores consisting of a larger number of premier stores, as well as a larger number of smaller stores, with the capabilities to store pick up, buy, and sell online through the Way Your Shop rewards program.
The company also stated that it will persist in investigating both Hometown Stores and Home & Life stores in cities and towns that formerly had larger format stores.
