Prince Harry did not hold back in his Sunday night interview with 60 Minutes, where he covered topics that have been making headlines in the run-up to his book, including his current relationship with his brother and father, as well as his father’s remarriage and his mother’s death.
The transcript of the interview is available on the CBS News website, as well as on Paramount. It has also been released on YouTube for easy viewing if you missed the 26-minute interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes.
Royal revelations
A few of the disclosures were given a new spin when Cooper, who happens to be Gloria Vanderbilt’s son and possesses some knowledge about renowned mothers and families, conversed about it with Prince Harry, the younger son of King Charles and the deceased Princess Diana. British publications have already disclosed certain portions of it, and there is at least one leaked edition of Harry’s memoir circulating in Europe.
Fight between brothers
Cooper, he stated that he did not perceive those comments as hurtful and expressed his profound affection for his brother. Moreover, he mentioned how William distanced himself from him when they both attended Eton and advised him to act as if they were strangers. Harry utilized the book as an opportunity to make some subtle jabs at his brother, Prince William, such as remarking upon his ‘disturbing hair loss.’
The fight was a rather unpleasant encounter, with Harry being the one who instigated it, but it was not Harry who got badly injured. William mentioned that Harry later apologized for his actions. This fight has received a lot of attention in various publications, with many headlines discussing the incident. The fight has been making headlines since leaks from the book started to emerge. The fight is further described by Harry, who talks about how William hit him, causing a cut on his back and breaking a bowl that was on a dog, which knocked it down.
Diana’s death, and no hug from Charles
His father, who woke him up, delivered the unfortunate news to him. Cooper informed him that their mother was tragically lost in that notorious car accident in Paris in 1997, when Harry was only 12 and William 15.
When delivering the devastating news, instead of putting his hand on Harry’s knee and telling him, his father reveals to Harry that he didn’t hug him. However, in previous books about the Royals, it was already well-known that this was much.
“But following that, nothing was alright for a lengthy period,” Harry pens.
Dreaming Diana was alive
Maybe she was seeking refuge with her sons and concealing herself, possibly for an extended period of time. Cooper conveyed to Harry during the interview that it was an emotionally painful segment, the most distressing one.
Travel along the identical path. I must embark on this expedition. Contemplating the necessity to undertake this expedition, he requested his chauffeur to swiftly transport him through the tunnel where she tragically perished at the age of 23. While he deliberately avoided viewing the most horrific ones, he requested to witness the astounding photographs of her devastating accident when he was 20 years old.
William has considered asking for the case surrounding her death to be reopened, he said. He never told how Diana died, believing the whole story, he said. He realistically doesn’t need to know all the answers to reopen, he said.
Harry used drugs
He was 17 years old when he wrote in the book that he used cocaine a few times. He writes that using the drug wasn’t very enjoyable. It made him feel “different” at the time, which is what he wanted.
Cooper informed Harry that he assisted him in dealing with the tragic passing of his mother. In addition to mentioning the book, Harry also cited the use of “mushrooms, psilocybin, Ayahuasca, psychedelics” as a means of coping. However, he strongly advised against recommending these substances to others for recreational purposes.
Camilla and Charles
Harry, it seems, is one of those individuals who told Cooper that Camilla “played the role of the antagonist.” However, those who remain faithful to Diana perceive her as the third party in that marital union. Camilla Parker-Bowles currently holds the position of Charles’ spouse and queen consort.
“Camilla suggests that she sacrificed me on her personal P.R. Altar by writing stories about her in that book and trading information about him to the British press. Harry goes on to suggest that it was unnecessary for them to have a feeling of marriage and that Camilla and Charles could finally be open about their romance. William asked their father if he could marry Camilla and he said no.”
During his 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry mentioned multiple times that within the palace, there are sources who have shared stories about him, specifically Camilla. However, he has never directly confronted her about these stories.
Death of the queen
In September, when Queen Elizabeth II was in London, Harry’s grandmother, a turn for the worse occurred. Meanwhile, she was at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, Harry asked William what his plans were. Harry had left the family on a small plane, including the queen. Although he wanted to spend some time saying goodbye to her, he arrived at Balmoral after her death and stayed in her bedroom while her body remained.
“Because she had reached the end of her life. She had fulfilled life, and her spouse was – was anticipating her,” Harry informed Cooper. “I was genuinely delighted for her.”
Current royal relationships
According to Harry, the rest of the royal family initiated the situation. Cooper highlights the possibility that they anticipate Harry to disclose any private conversations. Harry expressed his desire to rebuild a connection with them in the future. During his conversation with Cooper, Harry mentioned that it has been quite some time since he last communicated with his father or brother.
He stated, “my spouse and I were compelled to flee from our homeland – my nation, to the extent that my spouse and I encountered regular confrontations against them with falsehoods, all initiated by them.”
No palace response
“Demanded its representatives, provide them with our report before broadcasting it tonight, which is something we never do.” Cooper reported that representatives from 60 Minutes “contacted Buckingham Palace to request a comment.”
Prince Harry’s book
The book is 416 pages long, and the audiobook is 39 minutes and 15 seconds. You can pre-order it in e-book or paper format.
Harry, who narrated the audio edition, enjoys greater popularity and hype compared to most memoirs. Therefore, there is no question that this audiobook will be successful. While the audiobook focused on the environment rather than his personal life, it is worth mentioning that Harry’s father recorded one of his books as an audiobook in 2010. This is not an entirely unprecedented occurrence.
Following the birth of his father, Charles, William became the next in line to inherit the throne. He was born in 1982. Diana was responsible for giving birth to both the primary heir and a backup, which is where the book’s title originates from, based on a well-known expression.
It is unlikely that Harry will ever sit on the British throne, and he has been pushed behind in the succession line. However, William has three children now, which means that if something were to happen to his older brother, Harry would be considered as the “spare”. Harry was born in 1984.
