Summary (via Lifetime).
Emily Roslyn Villarreal and Roy Abramsohn star. Madeline launches an investigation in an attempt to protect her Aunt Grace, without knowing that her own life is at stake. Events begin to occur and a series of strange and terrifying occurrences unfold, until it becomes apparent that the beautiful scenery and cute neighbor in the secluded ranch house are not as they seem. Madeline turns to help her Aunt Grace, losing her job and failing out of college in the process.
Recap/Wine Thoughts.
“I DO NOT ADORE YOUUUUUU!” She screams while her landlord chokes her. The person she is planning to move in with is her boyfriend, and she informs her landlord (presumably) about the woman in shadow who initiates the film in a carriage house.
The coach house is being moved by Aunt Paul, who is Grace’s husband. Maddie is moving with Aunt Grace after attempting to go to college and having a rough summer. Cut to a beautiful woman pulling up in her car, working on it with the handsome neighbor next door.
Grace admits to Aunt Paul that her marriage with Maddie, who she hates, is not going well and decides to take some time to go to Africa to photograph wildlife. It is just that Grace leaves her husband with Maddie, realizing that their relationship is messed up.
Maddie doesn’t appear to be worried; there is no wifi and the cell phone reception is unreliable. Paul has a rule for Maddie to stay out of the guest house where the girl he killed stayed. I would quickly leave that place!
Layla receives calls from her friend on the landline. Maddie, a mysterious woman, looks at photos and drinks wine alone in the house. Can you believe it? She actually has a rotary phone!
Maddie senses a presence observing her. He attributes it to the fauna, but Maddie inquires about the nocturnal sounds she frequently hears. He is in search of his missing feline companion. Kevin, the next-door resident, pays a visit and startles Maddie, causing her great fear.
He is an eccentric man! Detects the scent of lavender and hears Paul sobbing in the bedroom. Swiftly proceeds to change and unexpectedly encounters Maddie in her undergarments. Paul arrives without prior notice.
Paul is pouring blood into the water tank while peeking inside the windows. However, the sense of security quickly diminishes as Maddie hears loud noises coming from outside the apartment. Consequently, she invites her friend Layla over for solace.
He finds it amusing and chuckles to himself, then proposes that she might be menstruating, and panics as he urgently contacts Paul and pleads for him to come over, which is extremely frightening! Subsequently, while she listens to an old iPad she discovers, dark crimson blood begins to flow out of the faucet, prompting Maddie to take a bath.
(I’m uncertain which direction would be more peculiar.) Following that sequence, they engage in intimate activities and discuss her deceased mother. She does extend an invitation for him to come over for pizza and wine. Maddie lacks the emotional strength to deliver the unfortunate news to her neighbor. The subsequent day, Paul arrives to empty the water tank and discovers the collar belonging to Kevin’s lost feline.
The kissing session is interrupted when Kevin notices the iPod Maddie has been using to listen to music.
Kevin informs Layla that Maddie wants to stay in a hotel or accommodation. Layla calls Maddie her friend and expresses her dissatisfaction and unease. Paul is pleased to find out that Maddie is coming. Paul jokingly responds, “I’m completely naked!” As he knocks on the bedroom door. The next morning, Maddie notices Paul’s car parked outside the front.
To ensure her sense of security, Kevin comes to her rescue and stays with her overnight. However, as Maddie attempts to exit the bathroom, she realizes that the door handle has become detached. While Maddie tries to fix the bathroom door knob, Paul forcefully enters and finds her humming to herself in the shower.
Kevin is having trouble sleeping because they are sharing a twin bed. They decided to break into the main bedroom because they had a queen bed. If you know what I mean, Paul watches them get it from the window and throws trash in the house as they fall asleep.
Layla reads a journal about all of the photography that KC named. Girls go through items in the secret bedroom, which includes black candles and a wig. Layla comes over to spend the night after Maddie turns down Kevin’s invitation to stay at his palace.
KC’s preserved corpse lies concealed beneath the bed, nestled in a garment bag, as Paul intrudes into the bedroom while the girls engage in conversation. Grossssssssssssssssss!!!!!
Wow, that was quite a handful. Paul informed her about the killings when she began getting involved with Kevin and became incredibly envious and obsessed. He allowed her to stay in his guest room and hired Grace as a model before the summer movie shoots commenced.
Kevin discovers Paul lingering around the residence and confronts him. Paul strikes Kevin, rendering him unconscious.
Layla inexplicably goes back to her dorm, following Paul, as she looks into his past and finds a case about a former therapist he may have killed.
Jack Torrance throws Paul through the door, but Layla tries to barricade herself in the bathroom. Posing as a maintenance man, Paul enters her room and knocks on the door.
Maddie is mildly concerned the next day when she doesn’t hear from Layla or Kevin, so instead of going on a normal hike, she decides to go on a solo hike. As she wakes up in the dark, she shrugs it off and becomes groggy. She drinks water from her bottle and then sets out on the trail.
When Maddie finally arrives home, she discovers that Paul, who she saw in town, also locked Layla and Kevin’s bodies in the bedroom. She reviews the footage and realizes that he drugged her water bottle.
Paul, demanding to know what he did with her friend, grabs a shovel and swings it at him. Layla sees Maddie’s phone in Paul’s car but tries to run away. Paul comes into the house and tells her that he will kill her next.
Maddie strikes him thrice: One for Lalya, one for Kevin, and one for KC. Afterward, she dials 911.
Paul awakens and nearly strangles her to the point of death, but she incapacitates him using a hammer.
The police arrive and question Maddie. Paul is dragged away in handcuffs. Aunt Grace returns from her trip and is like, “WTF!”.
Maddie, an experienced artist, shares a photo exhibit in the summer showcasing pictures from her previous year. That’s the price she pays for being an artist. It’s a challenging journey.
Side Note.
Can we all concur that Aunt Grace is simply the most terrible aunt ever?!
Emily Roslyn Villarreal’s first leading role in a Lifetime Movie marks a notable accomplishment. She will reach even higher levels; nevertheless, this portrayal was not her most remarkable performance.
