North Laurel Community Center

The North Laurel Community Center is one of Howard County’s community centers, serving the southeastern portion of the county. It is a multi-purpose facility with various rooms and features, including senior activity rooms, preschool classrooms, a double gymnasium, an aerobics and dance room, a game room, and a fitness room. This facility is shared by the Office on Aging and Independence, the Howard County Police Department, and the Howard County Health and Parks & Recreation Departments.

December 24th and 31st at 5pm: Shut down. Additionally, December 25th, Thanksgiving (on Thursday and Friday), Labor Day, July 4th, Memorial Day, Easter Sunday, and January 1st are all days when we are not open.

Adjacent to the North Laurel Skate Park, the Community Center is situated within the North Laurel Park and provides facilities such as a workout area, versatile rooms, a dance studio, a sports hall, a recreation room, a Police Community Resource Office, a Community Health Office, an Infants & Children (WIC) office, a recreational area, and additional amenities.

  • Footwear and tops should always be worn outside of the locker room sections.
  • Customers are advised to safeguard their possessions. The center cannot be held accountable for any lost or stolen items.
  • Animals are not allowed in the center (service animals are allowed).
  • Running or disruptive behavior is strictly prohibited in the center hallways.
  • The behavior and behavior of a coordinated group are the duty of the group leader.

  • Attendees must adhere to the Regulations of Behavior established by the Department of Recreation & Parks and comport themselves in a respectable fashion.
  • Upon finishing the Teen Weight Training Program, teenagers between the ages of 13 and 15 are allowed to access the fitness room as long as there is adult supervision. However, individuals who are 16 years old and above must make use of the fitness room.
  • Please do not leave or change your clothes in the fitness room. Lockers are provided for your convenience.
  • Strollers, baby carriers, and kids are not allowed to wait inside the fitness center while a parent/guardian is working out.
  • Flip-flops and work boots are not allowed; instead, spiked shoes, sandals, and rubber-soled athletic shoes must be worn at all times to ensure safety and health reasons. These shoes should cover the entire foot.
  • Bathing suits and garments with visible metal rivets or components are not allowed in the fitness area. Shirts must be worn at all moments. Appropriate workout clothing is mandatory.
  • Eating is prohibited in the fitness area. However, closed containers of plastic beverages are permissible.
  • Customers are accountable for cleaning the equipment after utilization and bringing back the weights to the designated racks.
  • The usage of cardiovascular equipment is restricted to 30 minutes while individuals are in queue.
  • It is recommended to use a spotter when lifting free weights. Avoid dropping or banging the weights.
  • Unauthorized personal trainers, instructors, coaches, or physical therapists are prohibited from providing training or instruction to clients or customers in the fitness room.
  • Only athletic shoes that do not leave marks are allowed.
  • Footwear and tops should be worn at all times.
  • Eating, chewing gum, and using radios are not allowed. Only drinks with caps or lids are allowed.
  • The use of vulgar language and offensive behavior are not allowed.
  • Slamming and clinging on the basketball rims will not be allowed.
  • No individual shall partake in behavior that violates the rights of other participants.
  • The fitness center should only be utilized for its intended purpose, unless authorized by the staff at the Center.
  • During Open Gym, no unsanctioned teaching or structured activity is allowed.
  • Games may be reduced in length at the discretion of the staff at the Center.
  • Attendees must adhere to the Regulations of Behavior established by the Department of Recreation & Parks and comport themselves in a respectable fashion.

    In case of bad weather, the center will follow the subsequent policy.

    If there is a one-hour delay in Howard County schools, the Center will make every effort to open at 9:30am.

    If there is a two-hour delay in Howard County schools, the Center will make every effort to open at 10:30am.

    If the schools in Howard County are closed, the Center will make every effort to open at 10:30am.

    If the schools in Howard County have a delay of one hour, the center will make every effort to open at 9:30am. In the case of a two-hour delay, the center will open at 10:30am. This arrangement is made due to winter weather conditions.

    If the weather is bad, schools will be closed and the center will attempt to open by 10:30am. The Emergency Snow Center will be closed if there is inclement weather. Once the weather has improved, the center will strive to open as soon as possible. If schools are closed, please call the listed number above to confirm the center’s status during inclement weather.

    If the Community Center in North Laurel closes due to inclement weather, you will be fully refunded for your rentals. However, if the Community Center in North Laurel remains open, but you decide not to show up for your scheduled event due to inclement weather, we will treat it as a cancellation rental. In this case, we will retain the security deposit and rental fee while making every effort to reschedule your event.

    The Center Membership grants patrons access to these memberships exclusively at the gymnasium and walking track, which includes North Laurel, Gary J. Arthur, and Roger Carter Community Center, the three community centers accessible through the membership.

    Adults must either possess the daily drop-in rate or have a valid membership. However, exceptions are made during Teen Zone. For individuals using the pool, gymnasium, and walking track, it is required that an adult over the age of 18 accompanies them.

    In Teen Zone, there are some allowances for supervision; individuals must initially finish a compulsory orientation for utilizing the fitness room and should be accompanied by a grown-up who is at least 18 years of age if they are between the ages of 13 and 15.

    The Office on Aging and Parks Recreation in Howard County have partnered to provide packages that are designed to give individuals access to wellness and healthcare. These packages, called Go50+ membership, are specifically designed to enhance the quality of life for the adult population aged 50+ who live, work, and play in the county.

Kindly refer to the NLCC Rental Guide for additional details regarding our rentals and party options. Our rental spaces can be utilized for parties, special occasions, corporate meetings, and various other activities. North Laurel Community Center provides a choice of pavilion, party packages, and room rentals.

    Please be aware that rentals may be provided at a decreased capacity because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
