OC BikeFest
The council members have granted their consent to a memorandum of agreement with the OC BikeFest organizers, which is slated to occur from September 14th to 18th.
According to the staff report, the organizer has also requested the council to schedule the event for the following two years, specifically from September 13th to 17th, 2023, and September 11th to 15th, 2024.
The tourist-heavy rally occurs annually in mid-September at the convention center on 40th Street, featuring activities such as bike-related demonstrations, vendors, music, and food and drink sales set in the parking lot inlet.
A separate agreement for renting the convention center space is currently being developed, whereas the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) approved on Monday pertained to the planned activities in the inlet.
The organizers are also currently finalizing the specifics with members of the Fire Marshal’s Office and police department.
The staff report stated that the OCPD members will need to know the estimated crowd sizes and concert dates for each BikeFest. This is because organizing such an event requires a significant amount of police manpower. Last year, the event cost the department more than $80,100 in regular hours and $37,200 in overtime.
If the weather allows, the Boardwalk trams will also be in operation during the event. As stated in the staff report, the approximate expense for those arrangements is $84,000. Complimentary bus services to individuals with wristbands will be provided throughout the duration at the West Ocean City Park and Ride for a portion of the event days, in addition to overnight parking for large vehicles and trailers as specified in the MOU.
The city is also working with the event organizer to collect revenue from trailer permits. The city charges the applicant $50,395 in private event fees and support costs.
Volley for brain injury
The annual beach volleyball tournament, aimed at generating funds for research on traumatic brain injury, will take place on the beach between 42nd and 43rd streets. The event is scheduled from 8 a.M. To 5:30 p.M. On Aug. 13, and a rain date has been set for Aug. 14.
According to the staff report, there will be enough space on the beach for regular patrons to leave footprints during the event, and spectator areas and headquarters tents will be included. The event features games played by teams on four nets set up in 8-by-8-foot poles.
According to the staff report, the event organizers will incur a cost of $350 for private event fees.

Surfers Healing Ocean City
A surf camp specifically designed for children with autism will take place on Aug. 17, running from 9 a.M. To 6 p.M., At the beach located on 37th Street.
According to the staff report, the Beach Patrol staff enjoys the annual Surfers Healing Ocean City event every year. The town’s family-friendly image is promoted, and the risk management officials state that the camp is financially self-sufficient.
In order to wear it, the event organizers will incur a combined cost of $570 for asset and assistance as well as private event charges.
Sunfest Kite Festival
The Sunfest Kite Fest has been officially scheduled, tentatively planned from 9 a.M. To 7 p.M. September 29th through October 2nd on the shoreline between Fourth and Sixth avenues.
The Maryland International Kite Expo, represented by Jay Knerr, requested approval for the three-day Oceans Calling music festival, scheduled for Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 at the inlet. In previous years, the kite fest has been held as a part of Sunfest. The event will feature impressive displays of giant kites, demonstrations of sport kites, giveaways of children’s kites, candy drops, and opportunities for general small kite flying.
The municipality is levying a private event fee of $525 on the event organizer.
Kitefliers Association event
On October 14th, an event for kite-flying is scheduled to take place at Hotel Royale Princess in conjunction with the American Kitefliers Association Convention, which is set for October 13th.
The exact measurements of the event’s footprint will change based on the tide, but the event organizer has asked for a sandy space measuring 300 feet by 300 feet.
According to the staff report, the event organizer will compensate the town with $350 as private event charges.
Breast Cancer 5K
An event aimed at raising funds for breast cancer is set to happen on October 22nd, from 8 to 11:30 a.M., On the Boardwalk.
The upcoming two years, specifically Oct. 19, 2024 and Oct. 21, 2023, will also feature the same event that is happening this year, the race scheduled for those dates, with Mary Bellis, a spokesperson from the American Cancer Society, seeking approval.
Sunfest, a fun walk/run event held to raise awareness and money for breast cancer, will take place on the Boardwalk and Avenue Baltimore between First Street South and Avenue Atlantic. The courses will be set up with concrete pads on the east side of the village race, and the event will include a 1-mile and 5K run.
The event organizer is offering the municipality a total sum of $1,325 for materials and support, in addition to charges for the special event.
