‘What? Did you say $100 million?’ Jeff Bezos honors Dolly Parton with massive grant

“What? Did you mention $100 million?,” Parton exclaimed with a chuckle. Afterwards, she became serious.

“Expressing gratitude to Bezos, she mentioned, ‘I will endeavor to utilize this money for positive endeavors. Moreover, I have consistently emphasized the importance of aligning my financial resources with my values, and I believe you share this sentiment.’ When individuals have the means to assist, it is essential to offer support.”

Sanchez stated that the accolade “acknowledges individuals who strive for excellence, discover resolutions, and consistently exhibit politeness.”

Parton famously donated $1 million in 2020 to Vanderbilt University’s vaccine research fund, contributing to the effort that resulted in the development of the COVID-19 vaccine by Moderna.

“I sincerely hope we discover a remedy very quickly,” a startled Parton exclaimed on the “Today” program two years prior upon discovering the impact her financial contribution had made. “I am genuinely delighted that any action I take can benefit another individual, and when I contributed the funds to the COVID fund, my only desire was for it to have a positive impact, which it apparently has.”

However, that is merely the surface of Parton’s extensive philanthropic efforts, which have been developing for many years.

Every month, over a million books are dispatched, targeting youngsters in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, and Australia. It has expanded from focusing on children in Sevier County to now including youngsters in different nations. The initiative, known as the Imagination Library, was established in 1988 as the Dollywood Foundation with the objective of aiding children in Sevier County, Tennessee in attaining educational success. By 1995, it had evolved from a foundation into the Imagination Library. In honor of Parton’s illiterate father, the program delivers a free book to children every month, from birth until their first year of school.

Each week, a teacher in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee gets a vacation at Dollywood theme park. This teacher lives in the children’s park and has overcome personal difficulties in their life. Rainbows Chasing Awards was established to recognize teachers who make a difference in the lives of students. Additionally, she has distributed numerous scholarships to students in Sevier County.

Established in 2010, the LeConte Medical Center, which designated its women’s health facility in honor of Parton, committed an additional $500,000 that contributed to the construction of a new hospital and cancer center in her native county via two of her enterprises, and, in 2007, generously contributed $500,000 from a charitable concert.

In 2016, Dollywood, through telethons, participated in helping families who lost their homes to the devastating wildfires in the Great Smoky Mountains by giving about $10,000 to each of the approximately 900 displaced families.

In 1990, she created a butterfly garden at the hospital to commemorate her niece’s victorious battle against leukemia. Additionally, in 2017, she generously donated one million dollars to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville.

Parton also created a refuge for bald eagles at her Dollywood amusement park.

“With this $100 million prize, @DollyParton, we eagerly anticipate witnessing the positive impact you will make,” Sanchez expressed on Instagram over the weekend, “in all areas of her endeavors, prioritizing affection and empathy and generously contributing from the depths of her soul, a remarkable woman who has been honored with the Bezos Courage and Civility Award, we now have a new role model, and Jeff and I couldn’t be prouder to announce it.”
