Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many stores had to abandon their late-night Thanksgiving hours in 2022 and beyond, as a result of the prevailing circumstances and the need to prioritize safety measures.
Following input from employees expressing satisfaction in spending the holiday at home, Target, for instance, announced to its staff in 2021 that shutting down stores on Thanksgiving would be “the fresh norm”.
Retailers are capitalizing on the growing popularity of online shopping by closing brick-and-mortar stores even before the holiday season begins, allowing shoppers to kick off their shopping online. Additionally, retailers are starting to extend the window for holiday shopping by offering deals earlier than ever before.
Most locations, with typical holiday hours, will keep their doors open on Thursday, Nov. 24, including popular drugstore Rite Aid and supermarket chain Whole Foods Market.
