After Rogers’ passing, the deacons requested Pastor Jack Teeler to deliver a sermon for a Sunday service. And they enjoyed his approach.
Teeler, who is Caucasian, served as the assistant pastor at West Mount Moriah Church in Como.
“I’ve known him for 10 years,” Rev. Wendell Campbell stated. “He embodies unwavering loyalty.”
Teeler mentioned that he relished delivering sermons with Campbell and had no intention of departing.
“I was pleased,” Teeler remarked. “I was accomplishing what I required to accomplish. I was his (Campbell’s) aide.”.
However, on the other side of town, at Harvey Avenue, members expressed their adoration for Teeler.
Mayes expressed, “He’s an exceptional, compassionate, affectionate individual. There is so much I could share about him.” Pastor Teeler? I need to prepare a packed lunch for all of you.
However, a Caucasian minister in an African American church?
Teeler expressed, “Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?”. They referred to themselves as God’s chosen ones and placed their hearts in it. They said I didn’t even apply for the job.
During his inauguration, individuals from various churches throughout the city filled Harvey Avenue to greet him.
Teeler expressed his gratitude to God for this unparalleled and separate moment in time. He emphasized that it is certainly different from anything he has encountered previously.
Teeler, a white pastor in a black church, agreed that society is sometimes divided along racial lines, but sees it as a unique lesson.
Teeler said, “I believe that person A is here, whereas I am here as well.” “I do not believe that they judge based on the color of their skin. If they had any prejudice in their heart or mind, I would not believe that they would call a white man preaching here.”
Teeler, proprietor of three Eyecrafters establishments, was raised in a predominantly Caucasian church.
He wedded an African American lady named Brenda Teeler, 27 years in the past. After a couple of years, he attended a church belonging to a friend, who was also of African American descent.
He expressed that the manner in which an African-American delivers sermons is melodic. It possesses a distinct resonance compared to being dull. ‘The Almighty will accomplish this, The Almighty will…’ They possess an effective approach to conveying, ‘The Divine will stand by you, regardless of the challenges you encounter.’
Teeler started preaching himself but he never saw himself doing it full time, let alone in a church with mostly black members.
“He expressed that the church is currently the most racially divided location in the world.”
Teeler expressed his gratitude for the appointment and eagerly anticipates embracing his new role.
