Without Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe’s unclear future, new-look PSG enter season with sights set high

Has he had a much better available squad than Christopher Galtier? Although Luis Enrique is the new head coach and the preseason has been ideal for him, there have been significant alterations made by the French champions this summer. However, things have not really changed at Parc des Princes, as it still feels like a standoff between Mbappe Kylian and the Spaniard. Their campaign in Ligue 1 gets underway this weekend against Lorient FC, and Paris Saint-Germain will not have an easy start.

The frontline has recently been strengthened with the anticipated arrival of Ousmane Dembele, as well as the addition of Kang Lee and Marco Asensio. Ramos Goncalo has also undergone serious work to improve his performance. Meanwhile, the midfield has received a boost with the inclusion of Manuel Ugarte, while Lucas Hernandez and Milan Skriniar have been added to the defense. This sudden increase in roster depth has addressed long-standing areas of neglect in terms of squad building, providing real quality and variety.

The addition of an extra layer enhances the star quality, and Verratti and Neymar are still available to the former Barcelona tactician in September. Mbappe mentioned that there is serious potential to tap into the collective talent. Although Luis Enrique might consider taking them all under his wing, he wants to see them develop in a new way. This current Parisien side is suddenly less predictable than in previous years, with or without Marco Verratti, Neymar, or Mbappe.

However, despite the fact that his stance has not softened, Mbappe has spent most of the preseason away from his senior teammates in the “loft” with other undesirable figures. Now facing a difficult final year in Paris, he should still be considered a player for PSG. Nevertheless, Real Madrid, a longtime target for the Spanish giants, still wants to sign him.

It is also possible that Real will come to the table and create the possibility of a contract. Another possible scenario is that Verratti and Neymar leaving makes Mbappe the undoubted figurehead of the team. It is difficult to predict how all the different parties would react to such a possibility. In September, if Mbappe remains a PSG player, it is likely that there will be a chance for his reintegration. The club’s ability to do so will be taken away once the transfer window is shut.

There is a resolution to Mbappe’s situation once he is on the field, as the focus will only be on the domestic competition. However, this time could be harder to put in the top spot and they quickly added themselves to the mix last season, as there are a significant number of games in a short amount of time, which has the potential to quickly become very serious for PSG’s season in the Champions League.

If Mbappe stays, PSG can dream of success under their new-look side thanks to former winner Luis Enrique, despite being less fancied and having a squad strengthened in the Coupe de France and Ligue 1 1st place, but must progress seriously in Europe after a long way towards repairing PSG’s reputation after last year’s implosion.
